Mandatory Requirements

The following requirements are mandatory for all AbbyPD applicants:

▪ Minimum 19 years of age
▪ Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
▪ Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
▪ Valid Standard First Aid Certificate with a CPR/AED endorsement
▪ Valid Canadian driver's licence (equivalent to a Class 5 BCDL) and a good driving record
▪ Excellent physical condition: Applicants must ensure they can meet the rigorous physical demands of the POPAT and a 2.4 km (1.5 mile) run before applying
▪ An eye exam conducted within the past 6 months demonstrating that the applicant meets vision standards noted in the AbbyPD Visual Acuity Report
▪ No criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted
 

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are not necessary, but applicants possessing any of these criteria will be considered more competitive during the selection process:

▪ Post-secondary education
▪ Community volunteer experience
▪ Police-related work or volunteer experience
▪ Work experience involving a position of responsibility and trust
▪ Activities or duties involving significant interaction with the public
▪ Knowledge of a second language or culture
▪ Military service
▪ Applied knowledge of computers and basic keyboard skills
