Police Information Check

You must be an ABBOTSFORD RESIDENT to apply for a Police Information Check (PIC) with the Abbotsford Police Department. 

Police Information Checks are processed in order of date received and search results should be completed within 10 business days.  Delays may occur if we have to verify search data with another police agency or fingerprints are required.

The Abbotsford Police will only release PIC results directly to the applicant, results will be mailed to the applicant’s home address upon completion.

Police Information Checks are intended for persons living and working in Canada; the results of these checks must remain in Canada.

In person applications can be made by attending the Abbotsford Police main headquarters at 2838 Justice Way.

Fees:

  • $65 for employment related PIC’s
  • $27 for volunteer positions
  • Fees are payable in Canadian funds, include GST and are payable in exact cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

In-Person Applicant requirements:

  • Provide two pieces of valid, government issued ID - one must have a photo.
    • Accepted as photo ID are:
      • Passport
      • Provincial Driver's license
      • Provincial Photo ID card
      • Canadian Military ID
      • Status Indian Card
      • Citizenship Card
      • Current year's student card for youth
    • Secondary ID that may be used includes:
      • Birth Certificate
      • Social Insurance Number Card
      • CARE (Provincial Medical) card
    • The names on the ID must match. For females who have ID in two different names (usually due to marriage or divorce) please note you may be asked for a marriage/divorce certificate to confirm the names used.

  • In some instances, the applicant may be asked to provide fingerprints so that we may complete the Criminal Record Search requested. If there are any additional fees associated with the processing of the fingerprints by the RCMP, the fees are the responsibility of the applicant.

TYPES OF POLICE INFORMATION CHECKS

The Abbotsford Police Department offers two types of Police Information Checks.

1. Police Information Check without Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC) – FAQ 

This check is intended for applicants who are seeking employment and/or volunteer opportunities with agencies who require a police information check. This check is for applications who will NOT be in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable persons.

2. Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC- VS) – FAQ 

This check is restricted to applicants seeking employment and/or volunteer positions in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable persons. This check is more in-depth and can include checks for any convictions, outstanding warrants, charges, judicial orders, non-convictions and adverse police contact information available from local police agency’s records management system and other systems/records where authorized. This check will include sexual offence convictions for which the individual has received a record suspension, subject to authorization by the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

Police agencies across B.C., including municipal departments and the RCMP, follow the BC Police Information Check Guidelines to ensure that all PICs are processed with a consistent standard. The Abbotsford Police Department plays a neutral role in determining suitability regarding employment and/or volunteer risk assessment. By performing a PIC, the Abbotsford Police Department is in no way making a recommendation as to the suitability of the applicant for a position, nor should an agency consider the existence of police information to mean a compulsory disqualification of the individual. It is important to note that information released on a Police Information Check in some instances is based upon information provided by the applicant. A police agency cannot guarantee it will identify all information pertaining to the individual.
